TORONTO - Five things to watch for in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø business world in the coming week:
Macklem speech
Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem will give a speech on Monday to the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. The central bank cut its key interest rate earlier this month by a quarter of a percentage point to 4.75 per cent and suggested more cuts are possible if inflation continues to ease.
Inflation
Statistics Canada will release its latest reading for inflation on Tuesday morning when it publishes its consumer price index for May. The annual inflation rate cooled to 2.7 per cent in April compared with 2.9 per cent in March as increases in the prices for food slowed.
Couche-Tard results
Convenience store company Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. will release its fourth-quarter results after financial markets close on Tuesday and hold a conference call with investors and financial analysts on Wednesday morning. Couche-Tard has a total of more than 16,700 stores operating in 29 countries and territories.
BlackBerry AGM and earnings
BlackBerry Ltd. will hold its annual meeting of shareholders on Tuesday afternoon and release its latest quarterly results on Wednesday. The company announced a deal in April to work with chipmaker AMD on new robotic systems technology.
April GDP report
Statistics Canada will release Friday its report for the country's gross domestic product in April. The agency's advance estimate for the month indicated real GDP rose 0.3 per cent in April, helped by increases in manufacturing, mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction and wholesale trade, partially offset by decreases in utilities.
