FORT PROVIDENCE, N.W.T. - RCMP say the illicit drug trade could be tied to a shooting that killed one and injured two others in the Northwest Territories over the weekend.

Officers were called to a home early Saturday morning in the hamlet of Fort Providence, where they found one person dead and two others injured.

Mounties say one person is in serious condition and the other is in stable condition.

RCMP say they believe the suspect has fled the community and possibly the Northwest Territories.

Police have said the matter is believed to be isolated and that there's no risk to the general public.

Fort Providence is about 315 kilometres southwest of Yellowknife.
