Air quality alert cancelled after fire at Alberta oil site brought under control

MANNVILLE, Alta. - An air quality alert issued for an area east of Edmonton due to a fire at an oil lease site has been cancelled.

Officials say the alert was cancelled after the fire was brought under control by emergency crews.

They say the fire took place at a site 23 kilometres from the village of Mannville.

Officials say toxic smoke is no longer being produced.

The alert had been in effect for everyone in the area between Highway 41 and Highway 870, south of Vermillion or Innisfree, and north of Wainwright.

The notice had advised people to stay inside with their doors and windows closed, and to be prepared to leave their homes if necessary.
