PONTEIX, Sask. - Mounties in southern Saskatchewan are investigating after a man was taken into custody under the Mental Health Services Act and later died.

RCMP were called earlier this week to help paramedics with a person who needed medical assistance at a home in Ponteix.

An officer took the man into custody in order to provide first aid.

Paramedics arrived and took over medical care, but the man died at the scene.

RCMP are to examine the circumstances of the man's death due to his interactions with police beforehand.

The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team, the provincial police watchdog, has been notified.
